Try Before You Buy

All too often I find myself falling for pretty beauty product packaging, and I buy something that either I don't need or I don't like that has really drained my bank account. That has happened A LOT with skincare stuff until I finally bought something and learned to stick with it (TreSkin RX), which I did buy the two week trial before actually deciding to buy the full products, in case I hated it. Anyway, I do this so much with makeup as well, and a lot of it ends up going to waste, because sadly most of the time I don't get around to returning or exchanging. What I've been doing lately, and what I would suggest if you fall into the "ohhhh prreetttyyyy" trap too, is buying mini sizes or "travel sizes" of products to see if I like it before I go to buy the full sized. Usually I find mini sizes at Ulta or Sephora when I'm checking out. They have tons of items lined across the checkout line, which I initially thought was just luring me in to buy more (this is actually how it started), and it probably is the main purpose, but it's pretty genius because now I can try the smaller size for wayyyy cheaper than buying something for full price that I will not use again. I've tried this with several products, for example the Urban Decay Naked Skin BB Cream I picked up from Ulta, and the Anastasia Brow pencil I picked up at Sephora, both of which so far I like a lot! So far so good! I know that at both places sometimes they will give you samples so you can try it out, but sometimes sampling a product once or twice just isn't enough to know if you'll like it, or if it will work for your skin type and for me it doesn't give me enough time to have a solid review on it. I will continue to look for travel sizes of things that I want to try or things that catch my eye to save me some money!

Have you found any products that you love and would suggest I try? (In travel size of course ;))

Girls Night

Last night was filled with nail painting, canvas painting, good food, good music, sweet treats, and of course, coffee! With good friends, all of those things put together makes for a great girls night! We had tons of fun together enjoying each others company! It was super girly and creative!

Coffee and tea is a MUST for a girls night (for me anyway).

What's your ideal girls night?

TreSkin RX review

I found TreSkin RX while browsing online and found a consultant on Facebook (Leen--it's consultant based). I've suffered a pretty big struggle with acne for the past few years. I have recently gone to a dermatologist because of my acne, and he informed me that I have hormonal acne, which cannot be cured with anything topical and told me that I needed to work on the root of the problem in my body. Which makes perfect sense to me. My acne is right up my jawline which is the normal spot for hormonal acne. He wanted to put me on accutane and all kinds of things like that. I've already tried antibiotics and such, which did nothing for me. Right now, I'm taking a natural hormone balancer that I found at whole foods, which I'm hoping will fix my crazy hormone problem. I know natural things take a while to show results, so I may not be able to see any changes for up to 3 months. I'm also taking a homeopathic acne relief which is supposed to work within 2 weeks, we'll see how that goes. Anyway, back to TreSkin RX. It is a 3 step system made with pharmaceutical grade aloe vera, and there is a kit for each skin type. Even though, the acne I have can't be fixed with anything topical, I LOVE this stuff. The other acne on my skin cleared up after a few weeks, and now the spots that I do get, heal much faster than before. The kits come with a cleanser, an exfoliator, and a moisturizer. I love how it makes my skin feel, smooth and soft. I have oily skin, and it doesn't dry my skin out like most cleansers do, it just feels nice and clean. I will continue to use this in my process of clearing this acne. And I want to keep you all updated during this process. I know it is an issue for many people, and I've searched high and low for products that will help my acne. I've tried everything, so hopefully when this process is over, it will help others figure out how to overcome this issue as well.
If you're looking for a new cleanser for beautiful skin I would say to give TreSkin RX a try, and I really believe you'll see a difference.
Right now they have a special going on to get a two week trial for $14.99! http://treskinrx.com/index.php?id=119 Just go to this link, and don't forget to mention me in the referral field!

Have a great Thursday!

Flat out Fabulous

As I said I would, I went to the MAC store and bought a couple of lipsticks... and a new brush.. I got two lipsticks. I was looking for a couple of everyday colors that I could throw on with anything and one fun color. The first one I got is called "syrup".

It's very sheer, not tons of color, but I love it. It looks so pretty on and is very subtle, but just enough.

The second color I got is called "Flat out fabulous". It's a matte very bright pink color. It's so fun and really makes my eyes pop, I just couldn't pass it up.

The first picture does not do the color justice. I really wanted another color called "peach blossom". It's a peachy neutral color and was exactly what I was looking for. That one was actually my favorite, but they were out at two locations, so I was pretty disappointed. I will be on the lookout for it and will buy it as soon as I can.  I am starting to really love MAC lipsticks and will definitely be buying more (when I'm done fasting of course).

On a non-beauty related note, today was the first day of the Spring semester. Honestly, I don't think this semester will be that bad. So far I like my professors, and I'm actually pretty excited. I should't have near as much work as last semester. One of my goals for this semester is to be more spontaneous. Last semester I would always go to bed early and looking back on it, I didn't get out too much, and I want that to change. I want to have crazy random trips to IHOP at midnight, and see more midnight premiers, and just not think "I have to go to to bed at 10 because I have to wake up at 7." Which is another great thing about this semester, I don't have to wake up until 9:30! Woohoo! I want my relationship and my friendships to grow, and to spend more quality time and have tons of fun with the people I love.
Have a great rest of the week!

Shop til I drop

Every year my family and I do a fast with our church to start off the year right. This years 21 day fast is going to be quite a challenge for me. I have decided to give up shopping... Yes, for a whole 21 days. We start January 13th which is coming faster than I'd like. So this weekend if I have to guess will be filled with shopping so I can get it all out of my system. Hopefully I don't blow all of my Christmas money, but I can't make any promises. I really want to go to MAC and update some of my makeup, which is funny because thats almost all I got for Christmas was makeup, but hey you can never have too much, right? In all honesty, I don't have that many mac makeup products. Not as many as I'd like anyway. I got a few mac products for Christmas, including a mascara and the holiday brush set (which I LOVE) but the only thing I've ever bought there was foundation. I love going in there and trying on lipstick colors, but I've never actually raked out the money to splurge on some things that I'd like in there. That is definitely on the list for this weekend.

This year I have a few "resolutions" you could say...
1. I want to be smarter with my money. Almost every month I set aside "play" money which is probably more than I should put aside for just playing around and shopping and doing whatever with it. Hopefully this fast will teach me that I don't need to shop ALL the time, but most of all that when I do go shopping I don't always have to buy. Shopping is very therapeutic for me, and after a long week of school and work, shopping is FUN and clears my head. Theres nothing wrong with shopping itself, but I need to learn how to say no to myself, and to things I don't NEED.

2. I want to make time to post things beauty related, and more tutorials and such. I know this is supposed to be a beauty blog which is what I created  it for, but I always post outfit posts, which I love because I'm all about fashion too, but I never ever have time to just do makeup and post about it! I want this blog to help me be creative with my makeup and to help me learn and grow in the things I love.

3. I want to spend more time with Jesus. This whole break, although relaxing, has been pretty busy. We're always running the roads and we go from one thing to the next. I really need that time to just sit with God, and fill my spirit back up. It really makes a world of difference in my attitude, and the way I feel and look at the world. It's just the most amazing thing, spending time with Him, and I'm done with putting Him to the side.

So, those are the top 3 things I'd like to stick to this year. I'm EXPECTING this year to bring great things. I can feel some change coming on, but good change and I'm so very excited about this year. Bring it on 2014!
What are your new year resolutions?

After my last little shopping haul, I'll post some of the things I get and how I like them! That'll be a start to resolution number 2! :)

Red Stick Revelry

I have had the most relaxing holiday season! I feel refreshed and well rested, and finally over the stress of last semester. I hope everyone had a merry Christmas and a happy new year! I know I did! I got tons of makeup (of course) and the most beautiful Kate Spade bag! This was probably one if the best Christmases so far! I had an absolutely amazing time with my family. After Christmas we headed to our beach condo to do some work to get it ready to rent. My siblings and I came back yesterday for NYE and we headed to downtown BR for the first year of the red stick revelry. Even though the weather was nasty we had fresh baked subway cookies and some hot coffee. The fireworks were beautiful and we had a really great time ringing in the new year together.
My cute model pic ;)
I didn't go super fancy and blingy for NYE. I dressed warm and I'm glad I did! And I absolutely love this sweater. It's cute and cozy, and even though BR was great and all, nothing would beat being in NYC for New Years!
I know I've posted lots of pictures already but I did say I would post my Christmas Eve outfit, but I got busy with my birthday festivities and all. So here it is
I loved the pops of red and the shape of this dress! Definitely one of my favorite parts of the holidays is getting fancy and dressing up and that's exactly what I did Christmas Eve. Hope y'all like it and I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season!
